An object-oriented approach to teaching mathematics for engineering and science students

It is suggested to teach mathematics for engineering and science students as exploration of mathematics-related classes. Similarity with classes and objects of object-oriented programming is demonstrated. In the framework of the suggested approach, each relatively self-contained unit of mathematics curriculum is assigned a data type and is considered a class. In such setting, a theorem proof may be viewed as an assignment of values to object properties. The approach augments the role of recognition of mathematical objects, their properties and methods （operations） and diminishes the value of comprehensive study of rigorous proofs. The approach emphasizes the importance of development of mathematical intuition and combines conceptual and operational approaches to teaching and learning mathematics. Prospective implementation assumes using of computer-based systems of formal proof.

运动控制系统是自动化专业的一个重要研究领域,广泛应用于各行各业的自动控制设备中,其课程特点是涵盖知识面广、工程应用性强。结合教学实践,分析存在的问题,探讨运动控制系统教学要立足建立卓越工程师培养目标的教学模式,提出使学生达到能真刀真枪解决实际问题的教学思路。     

Doping of Ni and Zn Elements in MnCO3: High‐Power Anode Material for Lithium–Ion Batteries

Herein, Ni and Zn elements are doped simultaneously in MnCO₃ and microspheric Mn_xNi_yZn_zCO₃ is successfully obtained. Atomic mapping images reveal that the Ni and Zn elements have been successfully doped in MnCO₃ and thus the prepared sample is not a mixture of MnCO₃, NiCO₃, and ZnCO₃. It is the first time that the atomic mapping images of ternary transition metal carbonates have been demonstrated so far. The scanning transmission electron microscopy ‐ annular bright field (STEM‐ABF) image successfully confirms the formation of oxygen vacancies in Mn_xNi_yZn_zCO₃, which is beneficial to improve the electrical conductivity. The evolution of the microstructure from crystal to amorphization during cycling process confirmed by the fast Fourier transform patterns effectively lowers the overpotential of the conversion reaction and accelerates the conversion between Mn²⁺ and much higher valence of Mn element, contributing to the superior capacity of Mn_xNi_yZn_zCO₃ electrode. As anode material for lithium‐ion batteries, the prepared Mn_xNi_yZn_zCO₃ exhibits excellent long‐term cycling stability and outstanding rate performance, delivering the superior reversible discharge capacities of 1066 mA h g^?1 at 500 mA g^?1 after 500 cycles and 760 mA h g^?1 at 1 A g^?1 after 1000 cycles. It is the first time that Mn_xNi_yZn_zCO₃ has been synthesized and used as anode for lithium‐ion batteries so far.

卓越工程师教育背景下环境工程专业人才培养模式探索

“卓越工程师教育培养计划”是我国高等工程教育的重大教学改革项目。我院环境工程专业作为卓越工程师教育培养计划试点专业,针对“卓越计划”的几个关键环节,提出了创新人才教育培养模式、优化教育教学内容等改革措施、转变人才教育培养理念、创立专业人才培养标准。在实践的过程中做了一些有益的探索,以促进高等工程教育校企联合、工学交替、课程体系改等方面的发展。     

Steven Holl’s NYU Philosophy

The New York University Department of Philosophy, by Steven Holl Architects, combines crisply detailed, rigidly rectangular, black and white elements with odd angles, holey walls and fluctuating rainbows inside a soft, curvaceous old masonry building with Romanesque details. Even though the architect is working on enormous mixed-use projects all over the world now, he took a special interest in creating new facilities for the philosophers close to home despite a constricted site and modest budget. Human Engineering Liaison.

Presents the history of a call for the introduction of an interdisciplinary human engineering organization and the responses (both positive and negative) this call generated. The author notes that a meeting between engineers and engineering psychologists to define human engineering more clearly would help psychologists improve relations with the engineering professionals. Human Engineering: An Outmoded Term.

Discusses the use of the term "human engineer". The authors argue that the use of the term engineer or engineering by those not professionally trained in the engineering sciences should be discouraged due to the implication that the individual concerned is an engineer or does engineering work. This is important because some states have certification, licensing, and legal restrictions as to who many be called an engineer and how the term engineering should be used in commercial practice.
